23 June 2015: Indonesia Forum North Rhine Westphalia

Indonesia: a promising market for German small and medium sized companies

Both, “spring chickens” as well as “old stagers” of Indonesian business followed the invitation to Münster of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Aachen, Bonn/Rhein-Sieg and Nord Westfalen as well as of the German-Indonesian association. They got informed about this future market and extended their personal network by taking part in the second edition of the event “Indonesia Forum North Rhine Westphalia”.

The Indonesian consul general Mrs. Wahyu Hersetiati was pleased about the increasing interest in her country and indicated that the good business relationship between Indonesia and North-Rhine Westphalia will continue to develop in a positive way.

“Klöcker Bros. would not be successful without Indonesia.” By saying these words, Dr. Christoph Schwemmlein, managing director of Gebr. Klöcker GmbH, opened his speech about chances, challenges and potential of the Indonesian market for German small and medium sized companies. A necessary condition for successfully developing new markets would be a good economic situation of the own enterprise.

The company Gebr. Klöcker GmbH decided in favor of the insular state not least due to well educated and highly motivated employees. The enterprise from Borken also refers to the connection with the RWTH Aachen University built up through the former president Jusuf Habibe. Habibe – like many other well educated Indonesians – had studied in Aachen.

Efficient partners on site

An efficient partner on site is indispensable for success in Indonesia. For this reason, Gebr. Klöcker GmbH founded a site producing accessories for weaving machines in Bandung, Java, in 1994 together with the companies PT. Agansa Primatama from Indonesia and Dihshiang from Taiwan in the course of a joint venture. Around five years later, the production site has been well established in this demanding market whose consumers expect a world-market level and high quality products.

As special challenges, Dr. Schwemmlein named the high fluctuation of employees every company would have to deal with, the tight traffic situation in the congested areas Bandung and Jakarta as well as the temporarily insufficient energy supply. These difficulties, however, may be easily managed with the right preparation measures.

Thanks to the Indonesian consulate general

The employer expressed special thanks to the Indonesian consulate general in Frankfurt supporting German companies fast and efficiently. Finally, the speaker referred to the enormous potential of the biggest national economy in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) which should be made use of by small and medium sized companies in Germany.

At the conclusion of the presentation, the participants had the possibility of exchanging their experiences in this promising market with the representatives of the Indonesian consulate general, with the referee as well as among themselves.

“Economy day” in Aachen

The third edition of the event “Indonesian Forum North Rhine Westphalia” will take place in Cologne in December. Furthermore, the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Aachen and Bonn/Rhein-Sieg will organize the “Economy day Indonesia” at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Aachen on September 17th, 2015. Interested companies may sign up for those events already.
